two kitchens in one

This country house is large – and it needs to be, because it is home to a three-generation family. Our clients had previously had a kitchen designed and installed by us for their previous home and, when they moved, called on us to design the kitchen for their new one.

There are two distinct kitchen work spaces within the one design. The ‘show’ kitchen, with its T-shaped island, Wolf ovens and integrated Sub-Zero refrigeration, is definitely a showpiece. The lowered units along the wall help integrate the kitchen furniture into the dining area.

Despite being located high up in the ceiling, the powerful but subtle Gutmann Campo II extractor easily handles the cooking vapour and odours.

Off to one side is the smaller ‘working’ kitchen, which is the domain of the grandparents. It may be smaller, but it is still very functional with its Miele appliances. It also includes the coffee station and the drinks bar, with an integrated under-bench drinks refrigerator.

The slim ceramic benchtops contrast beautifully with the ten-centimetre-thick dining table and its waterfall end.

As the children grow up, they learn and adopt cooking skills and passion from their parents and grandparents, and the family stays close and connected within their two kitchens.
